When I was younger, I would always be outside playing with the boys. That little girl that was always running around in the mud with her poofy, white dress.  My mom was always having to clean me up after and it would make her so angry! She decided one day to sign me up for a volleyball team at the local recreation center without telling me. I remember that it was on a Friday afternoon. I had just gotten out of school and my mom told me. My first reaction was “Wait what?! ” I couldn’t believe it. We had had a long discussion about me getting into volleyball and I really did not want to play. I just was not interested in the sport. The day of the first practice had came and I was so nervous. Sweaty palms, forehead sweating, nail biting was what was going on while I was waiting for the clock to strike at 7. Other girls were walking in to the gym and I had soon realized that they were going to be my teammates. Practice wasn’t that bad. The other girls were very kind and we all got along. We later got closer and closer. At first I wasn’t enjoying playing volleyball. I would get frustrated and just cry. But I played throughout the whole year and then I started enjoying it a lot. I was always looking forward going to the practices, the games, and even going to watch other girls play. My skills began to improve after practicing so much. I played on the school team throughout middle school. I soon got to high school and tried out for the team. It was very nerve wracking but I made it! I loved being on a great team. I loved being able to play with my old team mates from when we were younger. My love for volleyball grew and to this day i’m thankful for my mom. I’m glad she signed me up that Friday afternoon.
